Blog 1: Pre-Project

About seven years ago, I sat on the edge of my couch and fixated my eyes on the TV. For weeks, I had been working on creating a draft board and envisioning the Brown's selections. Now while Johnny Manziel and Justin Gilbert ended up being terrible picks, I was hooked. The NFL draft is a spectacle that rewards strategic sports oriented minds and showcases the tedious work of organizations as they prepare to evaluate hundreds of prospects. It's always been a fascinating event to me and something I wanted to explore in a broad context. About six months ago, I created a YouTube channel, "The Prospect Prophet," where I produce visual sports content that analyzes college prospects and explores various questions around the league. For my Hawken Project, I'll be expanding this channel by continuing to produce content and learning more about the world of Sports Journalism with my mentor Myles Simmons and partner Luke Culver. We'll be writing articles, recording podcasts, and making videos on a wide range of topics and debates. My goal with this project is to learn what it feels like to be fully immersed in sports media and improve my ability to create professional content.

  1. Will, I'm so glad you're going to explore a field that you've been interested in for a long while. You and Luke will make a great team as you create and publish the content. Are you able to publish the link to your YouTube channel? What new skills do you think you'll be able to learn from your mentor, Myles Simmons? I look forward to seeing what you and Luke produce over these next three weeks. I hope that you can share the link to your website with the community.
